Zondervan Authors Are MAD (Making a Difference)
In the words of Bill Hybels, the fallout from the HIV/AIDS pandemic wrecks me, "wrecks him [Jesus], and he is ready for you both to do something about it" (Holy Discontent). I'm happy to see that several Zondervan authors are doing something about it by leading the church to better engage the world as Jesus did in the battle against HIV/AIDS. I encourage you to visit the two summit Websites and participate if you can.
Global Summit on AIDS & The Church, November 28-30, Saddleback Church, Lake Forest, California. From the Website: “What is faith without action? This summit will provide you with the information and tools you need to discover how your congregation, organization, or agency can start to make a positive change.” Speakers include Rick Warren, Kay Warren, John Ortberg, John Thomas, Lynne Hybels, Dennis Rainey, Bruce Sonnenberg, and Her Excellency, Mrs. Jeannette Kagame, First Lady of Rwanda.

HIV/AIDS Youth Summit, a free event (for those with CCN satellite equipment) put on by CCN. From the Website: The world has never seen a greater humanitarian crisis than the current AIDS pandemic. But the world has also never seen a generation of students like today’s teenagers!” Speakers include Rick Warren, Kay Warren, Jenna Bush, and Francis Chan.

Thanks for sharing the info on these two summits! They look like great educational opportunities! It is critical for the church to get involved in the AIDS epidemic, which I know we've been doing more and more in recent years. Praise God! But there is still so much more work for us to do.
I encourage folks to check out the Faith in Action Study Bible that Zondervan and World Vision put out a couple of years ago. It is a great way to engage God's Word and to learn about ways you can and should put your faith in action! I've volunteered with World Vision for years and absolutely love their work. They focus in primarily on folks living on less than $1 a day. Of which there are 1.2 billion folks in our world living on less than $1 a day! :(
One of World Vision's most amazing projects has been their HIV / AIDS Caregiver Kits. These kits can be put together by individuals and/or churches - similar to Operation Christmas Child really. The kits contain some basic sanitary supplies - latex gloves, cotton balls, wash cloths, etc. - that will be sent overseas to someone who is a Caregiver for someone else living with HIV/AIDS in very impoverished circumstances. You or I could easily buy these sanitary supplies at our local drugstore for $25. The folks that receive these critical sanitary supplies can't get them any other way than us sending them to them through World Vision!
Check out http://www.worldvision.org for more details on the Caregiver Kits. And check out http://www.zondervan.com for the Faith in Action Study Bible.
I hope everyone had a great weekend! God bless!
Mike
p.s. Happy New International Version of the Bible Week Zondervan! The NIV is definitely the version I use in memorizing Scripture!
